Job Responsibilities
The challenges that our customers face are unique and complex—not something that any off-the-shelf product will easily fit. Your job will be to deploy, test, and learn the Tego hardware ecosystem. You will work closely with our senior hardware engineers, supporting the deployment projects they lead, in addition to our software engineering, marketing, sales, and operations teams.
The hardware layer you will manage focuses on the sensors, RFID tags, and other edge devices that provide reliable, real-world data for our customers. To start, you will be responsible for validating and deploying hardware solutions to meet customer requirements. This will require installation, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. As you learn the system, you will take on more independent work, leading deployments and participating in solution design.
You will be an important part of a team of highly motivated and talented individuals, and this is a terrific opportunity to challenge yourself, grow your career, and influence the next generation of distributed systems platforms. Successful candidates should have an aptitude for hands-on hardware work, experience with RF fundamentals, troubleshooting skills, and a willingness to learn.
This will be a customer-facing role and requires excellent communication skills. You will interact directly with customers, interfacing with them on behalf of the Tego engineering team. You will then have to effectively communicate customer needs back to the Tego engineering team.
This is a new role and a portion of the business that we intend to expand. This will be an opportunity to expand both your technical expertise and communication skills, working with both customer personnel at multiple levels and Tego internal teams.
Core Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with fellow engineers to develop and maintain networks of RFID hardware readers, antennas, and other hardware.
- Work with the software engineering team to integrate new types of hardware with Tego’s software (readers, tags, sensors, and others).
- Install, configure, and validate hardware solutions for novel customer use cases and new Tego products in collaboration with the software engineering team.
- Evaluate and test new hardware products for use in Tego systems, including but not limited to auto-ID hardware devices.
- Develop technical documentation and instructions.
- Provide technical support related to hardware and assist with related network (IT) support responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship: This role will require the ability to visit customer sites and access internal customer systems. Most of our current customers require a US passport for on-site and system access.
- BS or MS degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- This role is based at our Waltham, MA office and requires daily in-person, in-office collaboration with team members, customers, and partners.
- A highly analytical approach and eagerness to tackle complex technical problems as you work with data structures, systems, and automation devices.
- Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites for system deployments.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-3 years or more of experience deploying and managing RFID systems, including experience with antennas, readers, portals, handheld readers, and tag selection.
- Strong technical aptitude coupled with a demonstrated ability to adapt to and learn about recent technologies.
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication.
- Experience authoring performance and stress tests, analyzing the results, and identifying potential bottlenecks in field deployments.
- Knowledge of vendor configuration tools, RF/RTLS platforms, and vendor operational considerations.
- Experience using web-based technologies or dashboards to visualize device health and telemetry data.
- Experience developing enterprise-grade installation, validation, and monitoring processes.
- Solid knowledge of hardware–software integration, RF fundamentals, and system-level debugging.
