At an oil and gas trade show last month, Tego presented its rugged high-memory RFID solution to an audience of Energy executives and engineers. At the end of the presentation we demonstrated TegoAir, our flagship software that stores, manages, and maintains an asset’s complete lifecycle history and information inside a rugged high-memory UHF TegoTag. The reaction was compelling.
The audience immediately grasped the use case for smart assets in the Oil & Gas industry and understood that a proven, easy-to-use solution is available today.
A few observations:
1) People seeing the product for the first time understood the value of storing manufacturing and part history information on an asset in the field.
2) Understood the value provided from full traceability of information available on the asset for decision-making.
3) How easy the software is to use
4) Speed of encoding a tag with 1kbit of information
5) Confirmation of just how intuitive the software is at organizing and managing the tag’s critical data.
Many in the audience contacted us afterwards asking for follow up and in-depth demonstrations of TegoAir for their business colleagues. The use case of interest is maintenance of valve inspection, stored on a valve in an oil and gas field, where there is no internet connection or cloud access. In addition to the valve manufacturer’s part information is information about the site’s GPS location, valve depth, its connection type, and body type.
A typical part-history record written to the valve’s TegoTag would store the following information.
A test of the valve was performed, and the action date was recorded along with the condition the valve was left in and whether the valve was left open or closed. The rugged high-memory TegoTag allows 8KBytes of information about an asset to be stored on it, enabling a living documentation of that valve’s condition in the field, surviving through extreme temperatures for 30 or more years. The storage of information on the asset means the ability to make decisions at the point of need. All information stored on the tag is available for later download into an EAP or SAP enterprise system back in the main offices.
A bit more information about TegoAir: it is reader application software used in aerospace tagging programs for flyable parts, but it is easily adaptable to any industry looking for a complete maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) solution. TegoAir is an enterprise-wide integrated solution. It offers the fastest read/write operations and data management operations. The software supports any EPC Gen 2 compatible fixed or handheld reader, and is 100 percent compliant with the latest updates to the ATA Spec 2000 Chapter 9-5 standard. The ATA Spec, Chapter 9-5 is a model standard for any industry looking at using rugged high-memory RFID solutions for MRO asset management.
If you have similar needs in a different industry, we can show you how quickly and easily you can adapt this software to meet your industry and business needs.
